Brockville – Environment Canada has issued a Freezing Rain Warning for Brockville and Leeds-Grenville with a major ice storm this weekend.
Our area will receive significant freezing rain over the upcoming weekend, starting this evening into Sunday afternoon.
Precipitation is expected to begin as snow or ice pellets with some accumulations before changing over to freezing rain tonight. Freezing rain may become lighter for some time for some areas on Saturday or Saturday night. Freezing rain will change to rain late in the day on Sunday as temperatures rise above the freezing mark.
It could see a prolonged period of freezing rain with significant ice accretion of amounts of 5 to 15 mm, with amounts over 15 mm possible.
A potential for widespread power outages, Icy and slippery conditions with
possible snow and ice pellet accumulations of 5 to 15 cm.
Ice build-up may cause tree branches to break.
Take extra care when walking or driving in affected areas. Consider postponing non-essential travel until conditions improve. Public Safety Canada encourages everyone to make an emergency plan and get an emergency kit with drinking water, food, medicine, a first-aid kit and a flashlight.
