Brockville – The overtime hero with his 2nd unassisted goal (I don’t know why Spicer didn’t get an assist on the winner) of the game was Jesse “Sudden Death” Lumsden.
I was determined not to start this post off with those Cardiac Kids, but man, oh man, what an exciting hockey game. It was up and down the ice, highlighted with breakaways, hit goal posts and physical play.
If you recall in last year’s lost season, Lumsden was the sparkplug. He did everything asked of him and then more. He was on the powerplay, killed penalties and quite often alternated shifts on defence. This year, he is specializing in OT Winners.
Every line and D pairings played their heart out and were rewarded with the win. From Dostaler, Albright and Plauszak through to Bianiaris, Robitaille and Curson, it was all-out effort every shift. The D played 200-foot hockey and contributed at both ends of the ice.
Ryan Gerlich bounced back nd turned in another really good performance. He was challenged by two or three Grads breakaways, but held the fort.
Once again, the Brockville faithful got to see the locals and near-local players perform in key roles for the Braves. Lumsden (Smiths falls) with a pair; Buller (Spencerville) with the Braves 4th goal, Grady Spicer (Brockville) setting up the winner and logging a ton of ice; and AP, Nate Curson (Mallorytown) playing his fourth game with the Braves (after a banner year with Athens Aeros ) coming close to scoring the winner in overtime.
I have to say Jesse Lumsden’s 1st goal was close to being end-to-end. He scooped up the puck inside the Braves’ blueline, circle,d then went on a solo rush down the left side, cut in on the net and fired it home. A classic Lumsden effort.
She’s all tied up at 2 each apiece. Game 5 is back in Navan tonight starting at 7:30 pm.
