
Brockville – The Brockville & Area Music & Performing Arts Hall of Fame welcomed eight more members last Thursday evening as the 17th annual induction ceremony was held at the Brockville Arts Centre.
Each year, near the end of March, people gather at the Brockville Arts Centre to recognize and celebrate the best in local performers and back stage workers and welcome them into the Hall of Fame in the following categories: Teacher, Musician, Actor/Actress/Performer, Professional, Production/Behind the Scenes and Band/Performing Group.

The evening started off with the Red Carpet show at 6:30 pm with guests, inductees and past inductees walking the red carpet, followed by the induction ceremony.
Those inducted on Thursday evening were the Lions Steel Drum Band, Theatre Director and Producer Bill Leroux, Brockville Operatic Society performer Neil Mathieson and musician and member of numerous local bands Sherri Wood.
As well four new members were inducted posthumously, a musician with the Brockville Concert Band and the River Winds, a member of St. Paul’s Anglican Church choir and a big supporter of music in the community, Mary Fuller, producer Tom Hooker, who worked for the Stratford Festival and the National Arts Centre among other institutions, Ken Eland, who was instrumental in saving the arts centre from demolition and Allen Wayte, a church musician and organist for St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church and the former St. Peter’s Anglican Church.
Inductees, the Lions Steel Drum Band, Sherri Wood, Neil Matheson, all performed live during the ceremony, along with performances from Hall of Fame members, Chris Coyea and Alex Fleuriau Chateau, a piano performance by pianist Christopher Cennon and a performance by students from St. Lawrence College’s music theatre program.
The Brockville and Area Music and Performing Arts Hall of Fame has been honouring local artists and their contributions to local entertainment since 2006.
