Brockville – On March 26, Dr Harvinder Chawla was recognized for her over 50 years of healthcare service to our community with a King Charles III Coronation medal.

In an intimate ceremony led by Steve Clark, MPP of Leeds–Grenville–Thousand Islands and Rideau Lakes, Dr Chawla’s family, friends, and colleagues recognized her extraordinary contributions to pediatric care in Brockville.

“Dr. Chawla has been a pillar of our medical community since 1975,” said Julie Caffin, President and CEO. “In 2022, a plaque was mounted in the hospital’s Women and Children’s unit to acknowledge her longstanding commitment to working with some of the youngest members of our community. In June 2024, Dr. Chawla was recognized at our staff long-service awards for 50 years of practice at Brockville General. This latest honor is yet another testament to the positive impact she has made.”

“I’m honoured to present a King Charles III Coronation Medal to Dr. Harvinder Chawla in recognition of her more than 50 years of providing exemplary healthcare to children, women, and families in our community. Dr. Chawla has cared for generations from the same family – literally the grandchildren of the children she once helped deliver,” said Steve Clark, MPP for Leeds-Grenville-Thousand Islands and Rideau Lakes. “Thank you to Brockville General Hospital and President and CEO Julie Caffin for providing the venue for our ceremony and highlighting what Dr. Chawla’s remarkable career has meant to the hospital, its staff, and patients.”

The King Charles III Coronation Medal was established to commemorate the coronation of His Majesty King Charles III on May 6, 2023. In Canada, 30,000 medals were produced, with 4,000 designated for members of the Canadian Armed Forces. The remaining medals were awarded to individuals who have made significant contributions to the country or achieved accomplishments that brought credit to Canada.
