Mallorytown – The Economic Development Committee of the Township of Front of Yonge is pleased to announce this year’s winners of the Business Recognition Awards. Award nominees and winners were honoured at a breakfast held Friday morning at the Mallorytown Legion.
The award for Business of the Year went to Leading Edge Overhead Doors, owners Cindy and Chris Birt. Arbru Solar Brewery, owned by Phil Audet, received the New Business of the Year Award.

Leading Edge is celebrating its 10th year of providing exceptional garage door services from its business on Graham Lake Road. Chris and Cindy take pride in the fact that they have worked with the same staff for all 10 years; they are like family. The Birts share a strong belief in giving back to the community, both financially and through volunteering. They have quietly raised money for 4H, supported soccer and baseball and made generous donations to CPHC.
New Business of the Year, Arbru Solar Brewery opened in 2022 as Canada’s first and only solar-powered brew pub. Recently, owner Phil Audet has made major investments by tripling Arbru’s solar

capacity to produce more beer, stay open longer and serve the community better. Outstanding customer service has earned the business a 4.9-star review on Google. Arbru’s many contributions to the community include open mic nights to support local artists, hosting Christmas markets featuring local vendors, holding trivia nights with proceeds going to local
charities, and sponsoring a local soccer team.
Audet was also recognized with the Front of Yonge Environmental Action Award in recognition of efforts to reduce the carbon footprint; these include a commitment to partnering with the Cataraqui Region Conservation Authority to plant 16,000 trees in Front of Yonge.

Both winners received awards crafted by local resident Dave Wells, as well as a certificate from MPP Steve Clark.
Mayur Vadher, owner of the Mallorytown Pharmacy, was recognized with an Outstanding Community Service Award for continually going “the extra mile” for his clients and community. The flood of nominations received every year for Mayur speaks to the impact he has had on the Front of Yonge community.

Guest speaker Heather Howard, owner of Fox Run by the River Retirement Residence and 1000 Islands and Johnstown Duty Free Shops, shared her own experiences in terms of the challenges and opportunities in starting a new business.
Other Business of the Year nominees included: Mallorytown Pharmacy; Slate’s Marine Construction; T. Avery Construction Sand and Gravel; and T.J. Guild Marina.
Other nominees for New Business of the Year included: Blackwood Guitars, Drawbridge Family Hair Design, and TomBoy Apparel.
Mayor Roger Haley thanked the Planning Committee (Mike Purcell, Elaine Covey and Councillor Margaret Fancy) and congratulated all the nominees and winners. He also expressed appreciation to the many businesses that donated to the event.
