Brockville – Skate Ontario is thrilled to present the first recipient of the 2025 Skate Ontario Awards: Adult Skater Award: Anita Barrington with Skate Brockville.
When Anita was 7 years old, she saw a skater performing a spin on an outdoor pond at her school. This moment sparked a lifelong dream of learning to figure skate.
Fast forward a few years, and Anita registered for her first figure skating lessons at 53 years old. The rest is history! Anita is now a STAR skater at Skate Brockville. She is currently working on STAR 2 Freeskate, STAR 6 Dances, and has recently passed her STAR 6 Skills.
She also competes in adult competitions in the Artistic and Freeskate categories, and received two personal best scores this season at the 2025 Skate Ontario Adult Championships in Kanata!
In addition, Anita is a CanSkate coach and has recently become a star 1-4 event assessor. She will be starting her journey as a Skate Ontario Official later this year.
According to Sabrina Hinson, a coach at Skate Brockville, “Anita encourages everyone to be a better skater and better person by showing the joy and passion for skating each session and always encouraging all skaters.”
According to Anita, “My personal goals are to always continue to learn and improve while having fun. After beating cancer, I know I can achieve anything out on the ice.”
Congratulations, Anita! We are so proud to have you as a member of Ontario’s skating community.
