Leeds County – The Leeds County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) laid close to 200 charges over the Easter long weekend initiative, which began April 18 and concluded April 21, 2025. Its primary focus was on passenger restraint systems, like child seats and seatbelt compliance.
Despite responding to over 170 calls for service during this period, Leeds OPP members were proactive and visible, and:
- Laid 197 Highway Traffic Act charges; of these, 11 were seatbelt-related and five were stunt driving-related
- Issued 28 Highway Traffic Act warnings, conducted 18 Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (R.I.D.E.) instances
- Laid an additional 33 Highway Traffic Act charges against commercial motor vehicle drivers for the entire month to date
“Don’t take chances with your safety or the safety of those you care about. Buckle up, every trip, every time. Seatbelts save lives,” said Leeds OPP Operations Manager J. B. (Brian) Jones
