Brockville – Unhoused Canadians and those without government-issued ID have the right to vote in the upcoming federal election.
Elections Canada accepts many different types of ID and proof of address that can be used to register to vote, including hospital ID bracelets, prescription labels, and letter of confirmation of residence, a letter of stay, an admission form, or a statement of benefits from one of the following designated establishments:
- student residence
- seniors’ residence
- long-term care facility
- shelter
- Soup Kitchen
- a community-based residential facility
If you don’t have an ID, you will need someone to confirm you are who you say you are, who is assigned to the same polling station as you. They could be a neighbourhood outreach worker or another homeless person with an ID. Important to note that this person can vouch for one person only.
