Brockville – On Sunday, May 11, 2025, shortly after 5 pm, the Brockville Police Services received a complaint regarding a possible explosion in the area of the Salvation Army on First Avenue.
Individuals in the area described vaguely that somebody had a gun and had discharged it, and had since left.
No injuries were reported or seen in the area. Officers converged on the wooded area behind the Salvation Army, locating one person who denied anybody there having a gun. It was believed that the individual police were looking for was a 59-year-old male who frequented that encampment.
The 59-year-old was located a short distance away at a nearby apartment building, where he was arrested for a firearms offence. He provided a statement to police denying any involvement in any incident. A thorough search was conducted of the encampment area, which did not yield any evidence of any gun being discharged, nor any type of explosion.
At this time, the man was released from custody unconditionally. If anybody was in the area or witnessed anything, they can contact us at (613) 342-0127.
