Ottawa — Michael Barrett, Member of Parliament for Leeds—Grenville—Thousand Islands—Rideau Lakes, was officially sworn in for his fourth consecutive term, joined by his family and members of his team.
“It’s an honour to continue the important work of representing our community, of being the voice of our community in the House of Commons, and working to secure affordability, safety, and the promise of a bright future for everyone,” said Barrett.
Barrett was reappointed as Shadow Minister for Ethics and Accountable Government by Conservative Party of Canada Leader Pierre Poilievre, continuing his leadership in efforts to hold the government accountable.
“I’m proud of the work that we’ve been able to do to identify opportunities for real savings for Canadians, to identify areas where there has been misuse of Canadians’ tax dollars, and to seek accountability from the government to recover those public funds,” he added.
Barrett is also looking ahead to continuing his advocacy for economic policies that support key industries across Leeds—Grenville—Thousand Islands—Rideau Lakes, and securing funding for local priorities—building on past successes such as investments in County Road 43, the Alaine Chartrand Community Centre, the Port of Johnstown, Royal Canadian Legions, rural broadband internet, and support programs for youth and seniors.
He remains committed to working with local municipal governments and his provincial counterpart, MPP Steve Clark, on pressing community issues—including addressing addictions and homelessness, justice system reforms, and securing funding for public safety to support local police and Canada Border Services Agency personnel.
Barrett has also been a strong advocate for enhanced funding for the Canadian Armed Forces, with a particular focus on cadet programs and reserve units such as the Brockville Rifles.
“I’m deeply passionate about serving our community—improving the lives of the people who call it home, and building on the work of the tremendous local leaders who make a difference every day,” said Barrett.
