Tickets are Selling Fast for This Thursday’s Brockville & Area Sports Hall of Fame Kinsmen Awards Dinner

Brockville – Tickets are selling fast for this year’s Brockville & Area Sports Hall of Fame Kinsmen Awards Dinner, which is being held on Thursday, June 12th at the Brockville Memorial Centre.

Tickets can be purchased at Flowers Direct in the Kent Plaza and at the Post Office at the Quickie in the Kensington Plaza in Brockville.

The cost of tickets is $30. There are only 250 tickets available; get your ticket now to avoid missing out.

The awards dinner is scheduled for Thursday, June 12, at the Memorial Centre in Brockville at 6 p.m. (Doors open at 5:15 p.m.).

During the awards dinner, four awards will be given out:

  • Sportsperson of the Year:
    • The five finalists for the sportsperson of the year are Brockville Country Club golfing champion Adam Folco, Penn State University graduating defenceman Simon Mack, star rookie Braves defenceman Grady Spicer, five-medal Canadian pickleball champ Chad Valcour and rising middle distance runner Jackson Witham.
  • Sports Team of the Year:
    • The finalists for the sports team of the year will be the Ange Gabriel senior girls basketball, Brockville Privateers men’s rugby, Brockville Angels under-18 hockey, TISS senior boys basketball and TISS senior girls basketball.
  • Volunteering Award:
    • Prescott’s Vicki Sargeant will be honoured as the recipient of the long-time volunteering award.
  • Coaching Award:
    • Brockville’s Janet Wynands will receive the longtime coaching award.

As well, five new inductees to the Brockville and Area Sports Hall of Fame will be honoured during the awards dinner.

Being inducted this year are:

  • Darren Burns, a star with the Braves and a longtime coach at Acadia University.
  • Kevin MacDonald with an enthusiastic 10-year career in minor pro hockey.
  • Whit Prophet, a coach in high school gymnastics and track and field before devoting his time to the CCHL.
  • Jacquelin Rasenberg, a talented multi-sport athlete at Brockville Collegiate, who starred in firefighter challenges.
  • Stan Smith, a prolific 10-pin bowler who turned professional and worked tirelessly for the sport in Brockville.

The five newest inductees bring the total on the wall of the Memorial Centre hall to 170 in the 31st year of the existence of the Brockville and Area Sports Hall of Fame.

This year’s inductees will be officially inducted into the sports hall of fame during a ceremony being held on Friday, June 13, at the Memorial Centre.

While tickets are necessary to attend the banquet and awards on Thursday, the public is free to attend the Hall of Fame induction ceremony on Friday at the Memorial Centre starting at 5:30 p.m.
