Brockville – The Brockville Fire Department (BFD) responded to a local waste transfer station on California Ave on Thursday to a report fire.
BFD said that when they arrived, fire crews encountered heavy smoke and burning waste materials located outside of a structure.
Facility staff assisted the fire department by using heavy equipment to remove the burning materials from the building, which greatly supported firefighting efforts, said the BFD.

The fire department said the fire was brought under control around noon on Thursday. They say the cause of the fire is undetermined.
The BFD said fires at waste and recycling facilities are on the rise, often resulting in significant property damage and potential injuries.
They say common causes include improper disposal of lithium-ion batteries, pressurized containers, and other hazardous materials.
