
Maitland – An extensive search for a wanted individual came to a safe conclusion with an arrest.
On Thursday, June 19, 2025, shortly after noon, members of the Leeds County and Grenville County Detachments of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) attended a residence in Maitland for an unrelated matter when they observed a wanted, high-risk individual running from the property.
Officers attempted to apprehend the individual, who managed to flee the immediate area.
The OPP Emergency Response Team, Tactics and Rescue Unit, Canine Unit, and an OPP helicopter all converged in the area to assist with the search. Officers also utilized a Remotely Piloted Aerial System (drone) as part of the search efforts.
At approximately 6:00 p.m., the accused was located near County Road 2 in Maitland and was safely taken into police custody. No injuries were sustained by members of the public, members of the OPP or the accused. Despite initial indications that the accused could be armed, no weapon was located.
30-year-old Alexander UBDEGROVE of Brockville is facing the following charges as a result of outstanding warrants:
- Resist a peace officer
- Flight from a peace officer
- Operation while prohibited
- Take a motor vehicle without consent
The accused was held for a bail hearing on Friday, June 20, 2025, at the Brockville Ontario Court of Justice.
