Diane Haskins & Chris Morgan Local Recipients of the Ontario Senior Achievement Award

Toronto – The Ontario government is recognizing 22 exceptional seniors with the 2024 Ontario Senior Achievement Award for their outstanding contributions to the province and their communities. The 2024 recipients have made lasting impacts through volunteerism, charitable fundraising and advocacy around the province.
Two were recognized from Leeds—Grenville—Thousand Islands and Rideau Lakes, Diane Haskins from Rideau Lakes and Chris Morgan from North Grenville.
Diane Haskins is a dedicated heritage preservationist and community leader. She founded multiple heritage societies, including those in Elgin, Portland and Newboro.
Diane led the restoration of Elgin’s Red Brick School and helped reopen the Newboro Block House with Parks Canada. She also established the Emmanuel Heritage Centre and created historical publications and displays.
Her work spans over 50 years, including organizing major events like Doors Open from 2006-2013 and a heritage display at the 2022 International Plowing Match, uniting communities through her tireless efforts to preserve local history.
Chris Morgan has been a dedicated volunteer with Seniors’ Community Services since 2018. Known for his warmth and energy, he welcomes visitors at the reception desk and has made nearly 5,000 birthday calls—each with a special song—to local seniors.
Beyond the centre, Chris shares his love of music through performances at senior homes and community events and supports the Kemptville Musical Lending Library.
His contributions have brought joy, connection and comfort to countless individuals, making him a cherished presence in the community.
“I am delighted to have this opportunity to acknowledge the work of 22 impressive Ontario seniors who have done so much to uplift and support their communities,” said the Honourable Edith Dumont, Lieutenant Governor of Ontario. “These awards recognize the wisdom, generosity, and positive impact of seniors in all aspects of daily life.”
The Ontario Senior Achievement Award recognizes individuals who are making a meaningful difference in the lives and well-being of people in Ontario of all ages through community service and humanitarian efforts. This year’s recipients have made lasting contributions to their communities and empowered fellow seniors by leading cultural, artistic, educational and health-care initiatives that foster engagement and inclusion.
“It is inspiring to see so many individuals across our province making meaningful contributions to improving the lives of other seniors and building a stronger province,” said Raymond Cho, Minister for Seniors and Accessibility. “On behalf of all Ontarians, I congratulate all the Ontario Senior Achievement Award recipients for their commitment to protect and support seniors now and for years to come.”
The Ontario Senior Achievement Award was created in 1986 to recognize outstanding seniors who, after the age of 65, have made significant contributions to their communities.
