
Gananoque – The Leeds County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a possible drowning incident on the St. Lawrence River near the Town of Gananoque on Saturday.
OPP say on Saturday, July 19, 2025, shortly after 6:30 p.m., Leeds OPP responded to a report of an individual who had fallen out of a stationary boat. The individual was not wearing a personal floatation device (PFD) and was located in the water several minutes later.
Despite the efforts of the Leeds County OPP Marine Unit, the Leeds and Thousand Islands Fire Department, and the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre (JRCC), the 20-year-old from Nepean was pronounced deceased at the scene.
A postmortem examination will be conducted. Leeds OPP is continuing its investigation in conjunction with the Office of the Chief Coroner.
The individual’s identity will not be released to safeguard the privacy of the grieving family.
