Prescott – The 2nd Annual Legacy of Care Golf Tournament in support of the Sherwood Park Manor’s redevelopment campaign raised $46,763.25 on Friday, August 8th at the Prescott Golf Club.

“This year’s tournament was amazing. Even though it was a hot day, everyone was in a great mood to raise money for a great cause. The generous support of the community was evident from the moment the moment I arrived – from the sold out roster of players, to the impressive array of silent auction items, and all of the various sponsors.” said Elizabethtown Kitley Mayor Brant Burrows who also participated in the golf tourney on the Mayors team and is on the fundraising committee.

“As one of the mayors in the region, I get asked to support a number of different events. This time, it was my turn to reach out to my colleagues and ask them to join me in supporting a worthy cause.  They didn’t hesitate, and I had a blast spending an afternoon and evening sharing some laughs with them.” Mayor Brant continued.

The sold-out event saw 136 golfers hit the links despite the scorching hot temperatures. Following the round of golf, there were an additional 34 people for a total of 170 guests, who joined the golfers for a sizzling fajita dinner put on by Madison’s by Renegadz.

Organizers say the tournament’s shotgun start was kicked off by MPP Steve Clark, with participants including local businesses and golf enthusiasts, including a team of regional Mayors.

The Sherwood Park Manor redevelopment project is currently anticipated to be ready to welcome residents in March of 2026. Events like this year’s golf tournament have been dedicated to not only funding this project at large, but also ensuring the residents have more than just their basic needs met, but have quality of life services such as a spa, hair salon, coffee shop and advanced rehabilitation programs available to them on-site.

Mayor Brant went on to say, “I joined the Board at such a unique time in Sherwood Park Manor’s history. When I think of the ups and downs that the Manor has experienced in its first 50 years, and see the promise of the next 50 years coming to life as the new building takes shape, these are exciting times! We have some of the best staff any facility could hope for, and everyone truly cares about our residents. We owe it to our seniors to try to make them feel as much at home as we can. I just feel we owe it to our community to ensure the longevity of the home.”

“Naturally, these types of events are important for raising money. But they are also important for raising awareness and elevating the Manor’s profile in the community. For years, the Manor was the best-kept secret in town. It was known to the families who had relatives living there, and to people who worked there, but it was not exactly front of mind for the general population. Over the last year or two, that has changed. Of course, the money is important too, as it helps us to deliver care that goes beyond the bare minimum required by the Province.”, said Mayor Brant
