Community Appeal from Brockville Mayor Matt Wren

Supporting Victims of the 95 Windsor Drive Fire & Building for the Future

Brockville – Last week, a devastating fire at 95 Windsor Drive displaced dozens of residents, leaving them without homes, belongings, and in some cases, without insurance coverage. While many initially hoped to return within days, it’s now clear that recovery will take much longer: residents from the less affected floors may be able to return in 2–3 months, while those from the more severely damaged areas face a wait of a year or more.

This updated timeline means even more individuals are facing extended displacement and uncertainty. Many are now grappling with urgent challenges:

  • Delays in receiving tenant insurance benefits
  • Lack of coverage for some residents
  • Difficulty securing temporary housing
  • Loss of essential personal belongings

How You Can Help:

In response, United Way Leeds & Grenville is taking action through two important community supports:

  • Emergency Response Grant (NEW) – launched in response to this fire, this grant will strengthen frontline agencies so they can respond quickly and effectively during emergencies like this, and in future crises.
  • Urgent Needs Fund (EXISTING) – already in place, this fund provides direct support to individuals and families facing urgent, unexpected needs—including those affected by the Windsor Drive fire.

If you’re in a position to help, please consider donating to United Way Leeds & Grenville’s Emergency Response Fund at https://give.unitedway.ca/donate/WBROCK.

Every contribution makes a meaningful difference.

All donations are eligible for a charitable tax receipt. The United Way will ensure that funds are carefully managed and directed to support those most in need—today, that means the victims of the Windsor Drive fire, and in the future, it will help others facing crisis.

Standing Together:

As we rally around our neighbours in the days and months ahead, let us also hold in our hearts the memory of the resident who tragically lost her life, and offer strength to those recovering from injuries.

Brockville has always shown resilience and compassion in times of crisis. Thank you to everyone who has already stepped up—and to those who continue to offer support. Together, we can help rebuild lives and strengthen our community.
