Brockville – Over the past two weeks, the Brockville Fire Department (BFD) have responded to three separate structure fires within the City. They would like to reassure residents that these incidents are not connected and are considered unrelated events.
They are also deeply appreciative of the strong support provided by their community partners, local organizations, and residents who have come together to assist those affected.
“Your efforts have been vital in helping displaced occupants during these difficult circumstances,” said the BFD. “While our firefighters are committed to protecting the community, fire safety begins at home.”
They encourage all residents to take the following steps to reduce the risk of fire:
- Ensure smoke alarms are installed on every level of your home and tested monthly.
- Create and practice a home fire escape plan with all members of your household.
- Never leave cooking unattended.
- Keep heating equipment and space heaters clear of combustible materials.
- Regularly check electrical cords and appliances for damage.
- Dispose of smokers’ materials properly.
“Together, through prevention and preparedness, we can reduce the risk of fire and keep our community safe,” the BFD stated.
