Kemptville – The Kemptville 73s lost both of their weekend exhibition games in the CCHL.
Saturday, they lost a 5-4 decision after a shootout to the Ottawa Junior Senators at the Jim Durrell Sports Complex. The game was tight from start to finish, with Kemptville taking an early 1-0 lead before Ottawa equalized. The 73s responded with three goals in the second period, but Ottawa fought back with goals from Wynston Iserhoff, Adam Gauthier, and Eric Kane to tie it 4-4. The game remained scoreless in overtime, sending it to a shootout where Ottawa’s Justin Mongeon scored the lone goal, securing the win.
The 73s lost 3-2 to the Nepean Raiders on Sunday at the North Grenville Municipal Centre. Kemptville initially went up 1-0 with a power-play goal from Alexis Beaulieu in the first, but Nepean responded with a goal from Jack Yates later in the period. In the second, Kemptville regained the lead with Anthony D’Arienzo’s goal, but Nepean wasn’t done. Karsten Barbeau tied it up in the third, and Mack McKee’s late goal sealed the win for Nepean. Despite being outshot 31-19, Nepean’s goalie, Jack Gedraitis, was stellar, making 29 saves. Kemptville had multiple power-play opportunities but could not take advantage, finishing 1-for-7 in the game.
Kemptville will host the Cornwall Colts in their season home opener this Friday at the North Grenville Municipal Centre, starting at 7:30 pm.
