Nepean – The Brockville Braves remain undefeated early in the 2025 season with a comeback 6-4 win over the Nepean Raiders Wednesday night in Nepean.
Peter Legostaev continued his hot scoring pace by notching his 3rd & 4th goals of the campaign.
Video Highlights:
The “Pony Express” line, Slade, Carolan & Lumsden, was temporarily altered but still came through. “Mr Versatility”, Jesse Lumsden in shades of 2023, moved back to strengthen the reduced blueline crew. Kayden Buller stepped in and scored a pair of goals on that line. His linemates for last night, Carolan (who is a threat every time he steps on the ice) and Drake Sled drew assists on both of Buller’s goals. For the Brockville native (and rookie) Sled, they were his 2nd & 3rd assists of the season.
Jesse Lumsden played forward, defence, power play and penalty kill. With less than 4 minutes of play, as Sled’s tripping penalty was coming to a close, Jess stripped the puck from a Nepean defender trying to exit their zone. Lumsden then streaked in from the blueline and buried the puck behind the Raiders’ goalie, Jack Gedraitis. This was the game winner.
But it wasn’t all offence. Nate Galbraith had another good game in the Braves’ goal. He made several key saves, including stopping a couple of Raiders’ breakaways. He faced 44 shots on goal, 17 of which came in the 2nd period, many of them while Nepean held a 5-on-3 advantage & scored 2 of their goals. The defence corps did yeoman service in helping keep the Raiders’ sharpshooters at bay.
The Braves featured 2 sixteen (16) year old’s in their lineup. A towering 6’7″ D-man, Zack Naish from Hampton, ON and local 1st round draft choice Carter Cuglietta. Neither looked out of place and made serious contributions to the win.
The Braves now have today to prepare for a Home & Home weekend series with Alex Armstrong’s Pembroke Lumber Kings this weekend.
