Brockville – The restoration and enhancement of Brockville’s Golden Hawk Sabre Jet Memorial has been completed after nearly 8 years in the making.

It was guided by the leadership of Brockville Mayor Matt Wren and his dedicated committee of Air Force veterans and local historians.

The iconic Golden Hawk Sabre Jet was first mounted on the spit of Blockhouse Island in June 1968. It was repaired and repainted under the skilled work of Dave Sheridan in 2018. That same year, on September 14, a well-attended rededication ceremony celebrated the aircraft’s renewed presence on the waterfront.

This year, the cement pad, benches and memorial plaque were installed.

Additional fundraising was raised through a musical performance at the Brockville Arts Centre, which helped support the City’s plans for an enhanced memorial honouring wartime Air Force veterans at the base of the jet.

“The City of Brockville is proud to honour those who serve our great nation,” said the City of Brockville.
