Virtuoso Teen Pianist to Perform Fundraising Concert at St. James Anglican Church, Maitland on October 26th

Maitland – Maitland’s St. James Anglican Church, in collaboration with Steinway Piano Gallery Ottawa, is delighted to present a special afternoon concert featuring 14-year-old piano prodigy, Muyang Li, on Sunday, October 26 at 2:00 p.m. at 20 Church Street, Maitland.

This intimate concert offers chamber-music lovers a rare opportunity to experience world-class artistry up close. Guests will enjoy an engaging and virtuosic performance in the beautiful acoustics of historic St. James, intimate enough to feel every note. The proceeds will be shared with the young artist, as well as support the ongoing preservation of the church, which is celebrating its 200th anniversary next year.

“We are deeply grateful to Muyang Li and his teacher, Dr. Chunson Park, for their generosity and commitment to community music,” said Sarah Jane Dumbrille, concert organizer and member of St. James, “Their performance will be a gift to everyone who attends.”

A Remarkable Young Talent

Born in Waterloo, Ontario, Muyang Li began piano studies at age four and has already achieved extraordinary success. He earned the RCM National Gold Medal for achieving the highest mark in Canada on his Level 10 piano examination—an honour awarded to only one student nationwide. Currently in his second year of ARCT-level studies, Muyang trains under Dr. Chunson Park in Ottawa and is an active member of the Steinway community.

In 2024–2025 alone, Muyang collected nine trophies, two medals, and twelve scholarships, including the Steinway Ottawa Gallery Top Overall Performance Award. He has placed first and second at provincial competitions hosted by the Ontario Registered Music Teachers’ Association (ORMTA) and the Ontario Music Festival Association (OMFA), and has received top honours internationally at the Henle Piano Competition and the Canadian International Music Festival.

His talents extend beyond performance, as Muyang is also an accomplished composer, writing for solo piano, chamber ensemble, and full orchestra. He earned First Prize with Honours in the 2025 Music Composition and Music Video Production International Competition and has been recognized in numerous senior-level competitions where he often competes against adult composers.

An active community performer, Muyang has completed over 100 public performances,
including appearances at Rideau Hall, retirement homes, and with Thirteen Strings Chamber Orchestra at the Music and Beyond Festival. He was also featured this year in Chamberfest’s Rising Star Concert.

Beyond his musical achievements, Muyang is an enthusiastic student of math and science and recently began the International Baccalaureate program at Merivale High School.
