Brockville – Another successful Rotary Brockville Harvest Sharing Food Drive was held from last Thursday to Saturday, raising over $18,000 in cash donations and collecting 9,580 lbs of food donations for the Brockville & Area Food Bank.
The food drive is run each year at Thanksgiving by both the Rotary Club of Brockville and the Rotary Club of the 1000 Islands.
This year’s total is higher than last year’s drive, which saw 8,412 pounds of food collected and donations of $17,507.
Rotarians staffed the donation truck at the Superstore and also sorted all of the donated food at the food bank over the three days.
In addition, both local radio stations, Giant 103.7 FM and 104.9 myFM, held a Food Bank Fill-up at the Real Canadian Superstore on Thursday, October 9th.
Each month, the local food bank sees over 1,830 and rising Brockville & Area residents assisted by the food bank. 38% of those assisted are children, and 12% are seniors.
The Brockville and Area Food Bank reported 21,537 visits in 2024, a total that included 5,519 visits by or on behalf of children; it notes the food bank serves approximately one in 13 area residents, and projects over 22,000 visits this year.

They expect 2025 to be the year when the number of visits to the facility will surpass the population of Brockville.
The Brockville food bank serves the city, as well as Lyn, Mallorytown and North Augusta, for a population base of around 30,000.
In July, a food insecurity emergency was declared by the city; it is not an actual state of emergency declaration, but rather aims to put pressure on the provincial and federal governments to take further action to address food insecurity.
