Brockville – The annual Brock Trail update by the Brock Trail Committee was presented to City Council’s General Committee Meeting held on Tuesday night.
The committee went over their key achievements in the past years, current and ongoing projects and future goals.
One current project is the new John Taylor Park between St. Paul Street and the trail bridge to Henry Street along the Brock Trail. They presented preliminary artist drawings for the development of the park.
A funding campaign for the park development is being conducted, and fundraising for this park development to date has raised $51,274.
One ongoing project is in the North Gorge north of the Railway Tunnel. The plan is to extend the Brock Trail under the Canadian National Railway under the existing stone bridge north and then east to Park Street.
The presentation said that engineering work has been completed and a budget has been allocated, and the project is shovel-ready. They are just waiting for the final documented approvals from Canadian National Railway, VIA Rail and the Brockville Legion.
Funding for this expansion has come from the Carolyn Sifton Foundation, with the remaining needed funding already approved by the City Council.

“Last week we did a site visit, and staff are working with railway officials to finalize an access agreement. Once that is in place, construction can proceed, and if all goes well, this project will be completed by summer 2027, said Brockville Mayor Matt Wren. “Sincere thanks to the Carolyn Sifton Foundation for their generous contribution towards this development, as well as to the extremely dedicated members of the Brock Trail Committee for their tireless efforts and leadership on preserving and expanding this jewel of a community asset.”
Another ongoing project is extending solar lighting along the Brock Trail. Next up for solar lighting are:
- Parkedale Avenue to Laurier Avenue
- From Laurier to Centennial Avenue
- Under the Kingston Bridge
- Under the CN Rail Viaduct
- Complete the lighting along the trail West of Cedar Street (Five Lights Required to Complete)
- Perth Street to Stewart Blvd.
Future goals of the Brock Trail are to extend the trail eastward:
- Park Street to Ormond Street
- Ormond to Bartholomew
- Bartholomew to North Augusta
- North Augusta to Oxford Avenue
- Windsor Street to Fitzsimmons Drive
