Brockville – Big Brothers Big Sisters of Leeds and Grenville (BBBSLG) announced on Wednesday that they will be winding down their operations and will conclude all programs and services effective December 31, 2025.
They say the decision follows careful consideration by the Board of Directors and leadership team, guided by their commitment to responsible stewardship and community transparency.
“For 48 years, BBBSLG has proudly served children, youth, and families across the region, creating life-changing mentoring relationships and helping young people realize their potential. We extend our deepest gratitude to our volunteers, donors, community partners, and local leaders whose dedication and generosity have sustained this work,” said BBBSLG in a news release.
They went on to say, “As BBBSLG prepares to close, the organization takes comfort in knowing that the community’s children and families will continue to have access to vital supports through other organizations, including BGC South East (formerly the Boys and Girls Club), which has announced plans to expand its programs and services to Leeds and Grenville beginning in 2026.”
Over the coming weeks, the BBBSLG said they will focus on an orderly wind-down of operations and will communicate directly with families, volunteers, and stakeholders regarding next steps.
“We are immensely proud of BBBSLG’s impact over the past 48 years,” said Bev Heuving, Executive Director. “While closing is a difficult decision, we are grateful for the decades of support from our community. This support has made a lasting impact. We are confident that local organizations will continue to champion children and youth in the years ahead.”
Plans are also underway to continue key community events, including Brockville Ribfest, Prescott Ribfest, and their annual Golf Tournament, with the support and help of their current staff and volunteer committee, but under new stewardship and with enhanced resources to ensure their continued success and growth.
They will share more details about these transitions in the coming weeks, along with announcing the charity that these events will support.
