Mallorytown – The Mallorytown Legion Branch #484 is holding its annual Remembrance Road Ceremony this Friday, November 7th, along County Road 5 at County Road 2 in Front of Yonge.
Residents, dignitaries and Front of Yonge Elementary School children will be in attendance for Friday morning’s ceremony, which starts at 11:00 am.
This will be the 26th year for the ceremony, which is always held on the Friday before Remembrance Day.
It features a grove of red maple trees, which marks the southern entrance to the special memorial roadway and honours 19 members of the community who lost their lives from World War 1 to the Afghanistan Conflict.
Last year’s news story on the 25th Annual Remembrance Road Ceremony below:
Remembrance Road runs north from Mallorytown to a similar memorial site in Athens; the roadway was named by local schoolchildren.
It has been officially designated by the Townships of Front of Yonge and Athens and by the United Counties of Leeds & Grenville as the “Remembrance Road.”
Each of these young men is commemorated with his own tree and cross. These symbolize the ideals which they fought so hard to protect a secure future for their families and friends and for their way of life.
