Brockville – Last night, Sherwood Park Manor marked its 50th Anniversary—an incredible milestone highlighting five decades of dedicated service and excellence in long-term care for the Brockville and area community.
The commemorative event, held under the sparkle of a ‘snow-dusted’ hall, brought together a diverse crowd, including current and former staff, the families of residents, generous donors, and key local dignitaries, all gathered to honour the facility’s half-century legacy.
Mayor Brant Burrow expressed the pride he feels to be involved with the Board at a special time in the home’s history, noting, “not long ago, there was reason to question whether or not Sherwood Park Manor would be able to continue into the future. Tonight, as we turn the page on the first 50 years and celebrate the tenacity and determination of past Boards and the staff, we know that the new building will stand as a testament to that legacy for the next 50 years. I feel very fortunate to be a part of that.”

Ken Durand Sr., the long-term care home’s board chair, reflected on the achievement: “Seeing so many past and present colleagues, families, and donors gathered here tonight is a moving reminder that this work is a collective labour of love. We are incredibly proud of the compassion we deliver every day.”
The anniversary celebration featured an extensive archive of memorabilia from the last 50 years for guests to look back on fondly, and was also a pivotal moment to highlight the significant fundraising progress toward the home’s future redeveloped facility.

MP Michael Barrett added, “It’s tough in a small community to raise a significant volume of funds for a project like this, let alone when competing against other vital multi-million-dollar community projects happening all at the same time—but Sherwood Park Manor is inspiring. This success is not just about dollars and cents; it speaks volumes to the tireless work of every nurse, caregiver, and volunteer. Success is built on the trust, compassion, and commitment of the dedicated teams at Sherwood. They always get the job done because they are truly dedicating themselves to a legacy of exceptional care.”
This ambitious $50 million vision aims to create a new campus of care model that will inspire services across the province. The plan includes updating existing beds, adding more capacity, and building a home that is pandemic-proof to ensure the safety of both residents and visiting families – while also remaining as the founders always intended it to be – a home-like environment.
The new facility is envisioned as a true community, strategically connected to downtown Brockville and anticipated to house commercial services and specialty programming for residents and their families.
The golden anniversary celebration last night solidifies Sherwood Park Manor’s place as a pillar of the community, setting a high standard for long-term care as it steps confidently into its next chapter of service.
