Lyndhurst – Leeds OPP say a vehicle entered a Reducing Impaired Driving Everywhere (RIDE) program on Wednesday, November 26, 2025, shortly after 2:00 p.m., where the driver is now facing impaired driving charges, amongst others.
Police say a member of the Leeds County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) was conducting a RIDE program on Hicock Road near Lyndhurst, ON. Only a few moments and vehicles into the RIDE program, the driver of a pickup truck was arrested for suspicion of impaired driving. A subsequent search of the vehicle revealed open containers of alcohol in the backseat and cannabis that was readily accessible to the driver.
As a result of the investigation, 60-year-old J. Randall BENSON of Delta has been charged with the following offences:
- Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs
- Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration
- Driving a vehicle with an open container of liquor
- Driving a vehicle with cannabis readily available
The accused was released with conditions and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Brockville on December 19, 2025. Their driver’s licence has been suspended for 90 days, and their vehicle was towed and impounded for seven days.
As the holiday season approaches, the OPP is conducting even more RIDE programs across the province, night and day. Road safety is everyone’s responsibility; don’t drink and drive. If you witness dangerous or erratic driving behaviour, contact the OPP at 1-888-310-1122.
