Brockville – The Rockland Nationals are a great team, but the Brockville Braves aren’t that shabby either, as they lost a 4-3 decision in overtime to Rockland Friday night in CCHL action.
Video Highlights:
On Friday, I posted a graphic titled “The HomeTown Heroes,” and Friday night, they were. They were missing Cohen Gill due to an injury. In fact, the team was shorthanded; in addition to Gill, Austin Caley is injured, and Peter “The Big Train” Legostaev was called up by Gatineau to play in the Q. Peter has played 7 games for the Piques and has 5 goals and 2 assists.
Back to the Hometown Heroes, Drake Sled led the way with two goals, his 2nd & 3rd of the season. Carter Cuglietta, the “Energizer Bunny”, was all over the ice and created a couple of chances. Nate Galbraith, for the 2nd Friday night in a row, was a standout. Stopping 41 of 45 shots.
Our vets had perhaps their best game of the season. None of them took a shift or parts thereof off. It was 100% all the time. Lumsden (Jesse, not Neil) and Carolan played hard at both ends of the ice and used their bursts of speed to advantage.
How about that extreme effort and slide/stretch by Lumsden to get the puck over to Sled for his 2nd goal of the night.
Our D corps had their hands full, but kept a lot of the play in our end to the outside and gave Nate a chance to breathe once in a while.
Our only downfall, from my perspective, was a couple of behind-the-back blind passes that unfortunately converted into goals.
I must give credit where credit is due. Rockland is a great team, always first man in on the puck, crisp pinpoint passing and controlled hustle.
