Brockville – A 32-year-old man is facing uttering threats and weapon possession charges after an argument between the man and his mother had escalated on December 13th in the city.
Brockville police said they responded after receiving a 911 call regarding a dispute between a mother and her son at a residence on Perth Street around 2:00 pm on December 13th.
Police said the argument had escalated between the two, resulting in the son taking possession of a kitchen knife and threatening his mother. Officers located the mother and kept her safe inside the residence, while police determined that the man had moved to the upper level of the home, where he barricaded himself in a bedroom and made statements indicating self-harm while still in possession of the knife.
Officers contained the scene to mitigate the risk for everyone while the Brockville Police Service Emergency Response Team (ERT) were deployed.
Police said ERT officers responded and assessed the situation while negotiations were initiated with the individual. The efforts resulted in the man surrendering the knife, along with a quantity of methamphetamine.
“This calculated response led to the safe arrest of the subject without any injuries,” said police.
The suspect was charged with uttering threats and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and was held in custody for a bail hearing.
