Brockville – Four Special Olympic Brockville & Area athletes who went to Brantford in August to compete in the Provincial Games acquired enough points to compete in the National Games in Medicine Hat, Alberta, from August 11th – 15th, 2026.
Also, 2 of the athletes showed great skill in soccer at the Provincial Games, as they have been recruited by North Bay to play with their team.
After a summer of intense heat, all the athletes who qualified to go to the Provincials have to be commended for training in the extreme weather conditions to improve their skill level in their chosen sport.
In November, a Special Olympics Team Ontario training camp was held in Bracebridge for athletes and coaches on how to plan training and goal setting, and to keep everyone motivated for the hard work that is needed to compete against other athletes from all over the country.
Congratulations to: Victoria Young – Athletics, Luke Brunton & Sandi Mercier – Bocce, Bree Christie – Swimming, Darby Rodgers & Kyle Vokey – Soccer, North Bay team.
As Darby Rodgers stated, “It is a dream come true!”
With the other 1400 athletes and coaches that will be attending the Nationals, enjoy! You have worked hard to get to this skill level.
As well, the Knights of Columbus 4th Degree, Thomas J Larkin Assembly are having a Chilli Lunch fundraiser for Special Olympics on Saturday, Jan. 31, 11 am to 1 pm at the Prescott Legion, with lots of dignitaries and Special Olympic athletes parading in at 11.
This same weekend, we also have the Tim Horton Special Edition Donut, and at certain times, we have athletes at local stores.
