
Athens – The Athens Aeros won both EOJHL weekend games, winning 3-2 over the Perth Blue Wings on Friday night and 7-1 over the Renfrew Timberwolves on Saturday.
Athens Won 3-2 Over Perth in EOJHL Action on Friday Night
Perth – The Athens Aeros were on the road on Friday night as they jumped out early and held on late to earn a hard-fought 3–2 road win over Perth on Friday night.
The Aeros opened the scoring midway through the first period when Alex Tornberg capitalized off a feed from Rylan Boyer. Just over three minutes later, Cohen Merkley doubled the lead, finishing a setup from Cameron Kelly and Jack Jansen to give Athens a 2–0 edge after one.
Athens extended the cushion early in the second as Cameron Kelly buried his 17th of the season off a return pass from Merkley, pushing the lead to three. Perth began its push back shortly after, getting on the board with a powerplay marker from Ayden Childerhose late in the frame.
The Blue Wings made things interesting in the third when Arjun Uppal cut the deficit to one with just under 14 minutes remaining. Perth earned a penalty shot in the final seconds with a chance to force overtime, but Nicholas Periard shut the door to preserve the victory.
Periard finished with 39 saves for Athens, while Jackson Howell made 31 stops in the loss.
Athens improves to 15-20-4-1, while Perth falls to 14-24-1-2.
Athens Downed Renfrew 7-1 Saturday in EOJHL
Athens – Athens delivered one of its most complete performances of the season Friday night, overwhelming the Renfrew Timberwolves 7–1 and moving within a single point of clinching a playoff berth.
The Aeros set the tone early, opening the scoring midway through the first on a goal from Cohen Merkley before Matthew Mines doubled the lead later in the frame. Athens continued to roll in the second period, with Cameron Kelly scoring twice — once early and once following Renfrew’s lone response from Liam Haggerty.
Cam McNulty and Jack Jansen added goals late in the second to blow the game open, and Mines capped the night with a shorthanded marker late in the third.
Marshall Greig turned aside 33 of 34 shots in goal as Athens improved to 16-20-4-1. Renfrew drops to 20-16-3-2.
The Aeros will host the Arnprior Packers this Saturday night starting at 7:30 pm.
