Brockville – The John Howard Society of Kingston & District (JHSKD) and Connect Youth are hosting a Coldest Night of The Year event in Brockville on Saturday, February 24th.
The Coldest Night of the Year is a 2 & 5 km winterrific walk which is hosted in 190+ cities across Canada in support of the JHSKD/Connect Youth’s work in Leeds & Grenville.
It is being held at the Brockville Shopping Centre (125 Stewart Blvd) on February 24 from 4-7 pm and raises funds for the local Outreach, Justice Involved Housing and Youth Housing programs which support individuals 16+ in Leeds & Grenville.
Walkers across Canada (and several US locations) gather in their own communities in family-friendly 2/5km walks in support of local programs. The event consists of an energetic warm-up, live music, and warm food following the walk.
Community members can get involved in many ways. They are looking for 20 team captains who will recruit 7 to 8 friends to their team, with a goal of raising $2,000 per team. Each member of your team can set a goal of finding 5 people to donate to their campaign.
Every walker who raises either $75 (youth 17 & under) or $150 (adults) gets a Coldest Night toque as thanks for being an amazing fundraiser.
They can:
- Register a team of their own and collect pledges
- Support an existing team with a donation
- Register as a business sponsor (various options available from $500-$2000)
This event is incredibly valuable to JHSKD/Connect program, as it offsets operational costs, increases their ability to provide tangible support (food/clothing/hygiene) for clients, and also helps educate our community on the root causes of homelessness.
