Gananoque – The Gananoque Islanders won both their Friday night and Saturday games against the Deseronto Bulldogs in EOSHL action.
On Friday, the Islanders hosted the Deseronto Bulldogs beating them 3-2 at the Lou Jefferies Arena.
The Islanders got on the board first on a goal by Cole Busschaert with assists from Chad Duchesne and Wyatt Cota. The Bulldogs would respond on a Cullen Hinds goal assisted by Jonny Hill to tie the game up at the end of the first period 1-1.
Deseronto would net another goal in the second period from Noah Brant assisted by Troy Wylie and Cullen Hinds to take the lead 2-1. Gananoque’s Ryan Verbeek with assists from Luke Edwards and Eric Selleck to tie the game up again 2-2.
In the third period, Aidan Harris would score the winning goal for the Islanders at 4:01 in the period. Assists went to Chris Latimer, Wyatt Cota.
The game’s three stars were:
- 1st Star – Jake Kment with 45 saves for the Islanders
- 2nd Star – Corey Kuypers who made 38 saves for the Bulldogs
- 3rd Star – Wyatt Cota who had two assists in the game for the Islanders
Saturday Gananoque was in Deseronto to play the Bulldogs once again, beating them 5-2.
The Bulldogs scored first on a goal by Noah Brant with assists from Greg Arnburg and Joey Mayer at 6:23 in the first period. The Islanders ties the game up at 1-1 in the first on a goal netted by Chad Duchesne at 3:36 left in the period. Assists went to Brock Higgs and Ryan Pawlikowski.
Gananoque scored two more goals in the second period from Kevin Domingue and Brock Higgs. Assists for the Higgs goal were from Kevin Domingue and Chad Duchesne. The Islanders lead the game 3-1 at the end of the second.
In the third, the Bulldogs would pick up another on a goal by
Cullen Hinds assisted by Jonny Hill and Austin Eastman. It wasn’t enough for Deseronto as both Justynn Steven and Ryan Pawlikowski each scored a goal to win the game for the Islands.
The game’s three stars were:
- 1st – Gan’s Leif Hertz with 54 saves
- 2nd – Brock Higgs – with one goal and 2 assists for Gan
- 3rd – Baily Maracle – with 44 saves for the Bulldogs.
The Islanders travel to Smiths Falls this Saturday, February 10th to take on the Smiths Falls Rideaus. Game time is 7:30 pm.
