Brockville – The life-size, bronze statue of Canada’s National Horse has now begun! The 1st phase of the build process is to build a wax, life-size model using life-size foam pieces, and Dave Sheridan, designer and artist for the statue is ‘over the moon’.  “We received the foam pieces on February 14th, and I am very excited to start building the actual life-size statue!  The volunteer committee has worked very hard to get to this stage, and I am extremely proud to be part of this significant Canadian project”.Following a kick-off fundraising campaign last September at Upper Canada Village, over 80% of the revised target has been achieved with all funds coming from the private sector.  The main source of funding is from donors who wish to be recognized (or have a loved one remembered) on a bronze-tooled plaque.

Several plaque recognition categories are still available, but space is limited:  Partner for $20K; Associate for $5K; and Friends for $1K & $2K.  “This is a unique opportunity to have your name, family, or organization’s name perpetually displayed on a bronze-tooled plaque alongside this stunning statue of Canada’s National Horse – the Canadian” says Don Cook, Co-Chair of the statue committee. Donations of ANY amount are welcome with donations of $50. or more eligible for a tax receipt. The volunteer committee of Don Cook, Darlene Burns, Susan Le Clair, and Ron de Vries, partnered with St. Lawrence Parks Commission to erect a life size statue of Canada’s National Horse outside the entrance at Upper Canada Village.  Canada’s Parliament passed a bill in 2002 establishing the Canadian Horse breed as Canada’s National Horse, recognizing the breed’s fine qualities and its contribution to Canadian history. For more information and to donate:https://www.parks.on.ca/corporate/ongoing-projects/canadian-horse-statue-project/Or visit us on Facebook: ‘Honouring Canada’s National Horse – the Canadian’https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=61550687246230
