Brockville – Do you remember when the Recorder and Times office was on King Street?
Our March History Talk (March 14 at 2 pm) will profile the history of local newspapers, so this week’s #TBT offers a little preview.
The Recorder and Times is the result of a 1917 merger (a result of the pressures of the Great War) of the Brockville Recorder (established in 1821) and the Daily Time (established in 1883). But the Brockville Recorder and the Daily Times were not Brockville’s only newspapers in the 1800s – join us for our History Talk to learn more!
The Recorder and Times moved from the King St. location (pictured) to California Ave. in 2001, and then over to Parkedale Ave. in 2011. The Parkedale office closed in late 2020 after the pandemic shifted how and where people worked.
In 2021 the Brockville Museum featured a temporary exhibit celebrating the history of the local paper; the virtual version of the exhibit is still available on our Digital

We invite you to attend our History Talk on March 14 at 2 pm to learn about the Recorder, the Times, and the other local papers of the 19th century. History Talks take place on the second Thursday of the month. Admission is $5 (plus HST) and includes a cup of tea. A list of 2024 topics is available on the museum’s website.
