Smiths Falls – The Gananoque Islanders won 5-2 over the Smiths Falls Rideaus in their Eastern Ontario Super Hockey League (EOSHL) best-of-5 semi-final series in Smiths Falls Wednesday night.
The series is now tied at 1-1.
Ben Blasko (Ryan Pawlikowski, Brock Higgs) kicked off the scoring for Gananoque on a goal at 13:34 in the first period. The Rideaus’ Kyle Dowdall (Andrew Sprague, Andrew Mckenney) would tie the game up with a goal at 12:16 in the first. Brock Higgs (Chad Duchesne, Ben Blasko) and Eric Selleck (Chad Duchesne, Ryan Verbeek) would each score a goal, the last on the power-play to give the Islanders the lead of 3-1 at the end of the first.
There was only one goal in the second period from the Rideaus Michael Mckenney (Nathan Slack, Spenser Cobbold).
In the third Brock Higgs (Ben Blasko, Kevin Domingue) would score his second of the game for Gananoque, followed by a goal from Ryan Verbeek (Ryan Pawlikowski, Eric Selleck) to give the Islanders a 5-2 win.
Gananoque out-shot the Rideaus 39 to 34 during last night’s game.
Game 3 is set for Friday night back in Gananoque. The puck drops at 7:30 pm at the Lou Jeffries.
