Cornwall – It was the opening weekend for the Can-AM 19U Baseball League in Cornwall over the weekend.
The Brockville Bunnies had four games scheduled over the weekend in Cornwall.
Their first game on Saturday morning was cancelled after a medical emergency in the stands taking place before the game.
In their second game on Saturday, the Bunnies played the Trois-Rivières Blackbirds and won the game 7-4.
From the Brockville Bunnies Facebook page:
Rowan Hicks went four innings only giving up one run but going deep in counts a lot. He got his pitch count up to 85 early. Hicks gave up 5 hits, one walk and had six strikeouts.
Brady Barrie went two innings giving up 3 runs on two hits and four walks. Mattie Barkley came in for the save and shut the door.
At the plate, the game couldn’t have started any better as Ryan Robinson doubled to deep left in the top of the first, followed by a no-doubter home run by Barkley.
Robinson ended up with 2 hits and a walk and Barkley had two walks to go with his homerun.
Other hits were by Hunter Sanger, Ethan Pert and newcomers Andon Gill and Jack LaBrash. Noah Deryaw walked three times.
Rookie Wyatt Last had a couple of good at-bats with one RBI and a strong showing at shortstop along with Ben Buxton showing promise behind the plate.
There were two games scheduled for Sunday but both were cancelled due to rain.
The Bunnies’ home opener is this Saturday, May 11th with the first pitch at 11:00 am.
