Brockville – The Brockville Bunnies came away with 2 wins and 2 losses over the weekend at Fulford Park.
Saturday saw the Bunnies win their first game with the 613 Kings, 12 to 2. The Bunnies outhit the Kings 10-3. Local Austin Ogilvie started on the mound for the Kings.
Jack LaBrash survived a shaky first inning but then went a solid 6 innings only giving up 3 hits with 7ks. Ethan Pert(s,d), Ryan Robinson(2s,3rbis) and LaBrash(2s,3rbis) led the hit parade. Noah Deryaw doubled with singles by Mattie Barkley, Lucas Gravlin and Cohen Gill.
In game 2 the Bunnies lost to the Kings, 5-2, but did outhit the Kings again, 7-5, but no clutch hits could be found. Cohen Gill took the loss but threw 5.1 solid innings. Barkley came in to finish up.
Wyatt Last had 2 hits (s,d) with Sean Pert connecting for oppo double showing off his speed and headfirst slide into second. Hunter Sanger, Barkley, Gravlin and Deryaw all had singles.
On Sunday the Bunnies hosted the Ottawa Knights at Fulford. The first game was a CanAm league make-up game with the second game an exhibition game.
In game one the Knights won 9-3 over the Bunnies. Lucas Gravlin took the loss as the Knights put up a 5 spot in the fourth to blow the game wide open. Rowan Hicks finished up on the mound. Ryan Robinson stayed hot with 2 hits and a highlight diving catch along the right-field foul line. Ryan Crotty doubled and got to flash the Bunnie ears for the first time. Zadok Roiger, Cohen Gill, Sean Pert, Gravlin and Hicks all had singles.
In game 2 the Bunnies beat the Knights 9 to 8. The Bunnies did squander a 6-4 lead to fall behind 8-6 but won after scoring 3 times in the bottom of the seventh. Hunter Sanger picks up the win in relief. Crotty started going 4 innings and starting to look like more of a pitcher with each outing. Brady Barrie and Wyatt Last also pitched. Gravlin continues to swing the bat better slugging a 2-run homer and a double. Robinson tripled with Sanger connecting for a clutch 2-run single which tied the game in the seventh inning. Gill and Roiger both singled. Wyatt Last with a big sacrifice fly to score Gravlin to get the Bunnies the win.
The Brockville Bunnies travel to Montreal next Saturday to take on the Titans in CanAm league play before taking a breather and holding a good practice day on Sunday. After that, the Bunnies will head to Oneonta NY for the first tourney of the season.
The Bunnies’ overall record goes to 7-9-1 with a 4-6 record in league play.
