Brockville – The City of Brockville and St Lawrence College of Arts and Technology are pleased to announce the sale of lands to the City to enable the construction of the Multi-Use Recreational Facility at the Brockville Memorial Centre.

In 1980 the City leased land from the College to allow the construction of the current Memorial Centre. With the plans to expand this facility, the City needed to acquire these lands from the College to facilitate the expansion. Once it became evident that the City required ownership of the leased lands the City and College collaborated to work on the acquisition.

Brockville Mayor Matt Wren stated “The City is very grateful for the College working with the City on the acquisition of these lands. For several years the City has been looking for a suitable location for a second ice pad, with expansion at the Memorial Centre being determined to be the best and most cost-effective location. The College has been an excellent partner, working with the City to make sure that this important project can move forward.”

“We recognize the importance of collaborating with our community to foster growth and development,” said Les Casson, Dean, Faculty of Creative Industries and Brockville Campus. “SLC’s partnership with the City of Brockville for the expansion of the Multi-Use Recreational Facility is a great example of working together to support projects that benefit not only our students and employees but also the broader community.”

The agreement will see the City purchase 9.16 acres of land from the College for $806,000. The partners will also sign a lease agreement, which will see the City continue to lease parts of the existing parking lot. The sale price of the land is at a fair market value, which was established through a valuation conducted by a professional appraiser.

The City has been working on the design of the new Multi-Use Recreational Facility since the summer of 2023 and has contracted architecture and engineering firm IDEA/N45 to provide a detailed design for the facility (conceptual renderings are attached). The detailed project design will be completed in mid-July and the project will be ready for construction once funding is identified and approved.
