Kemptville – The Grenville County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is seeking witnesses and information regarding an overdose death that occurred in the Town of Kemptville.
The death was reported to police shortly after 4:30 p.m., on June 26, 2024. The investigation is being led by the Grenville County OPP Crime Unit. Police believe there are witnesses to the event that could assist with the investigation.
The Grenville County OPP wants to remind the public of the Good Samaritan Drug Overdose Act (GSDOA), which provides some legal protection for individuals who seek emergency help during an overdose. The Act is meant to reduce the fear of police attending an overdose event and encourage people to help save a life.
The GSDOA applies to anyone seeking emergency assistance during an overdose, including the person experiencing an overdose and the person who seeks help, whether they stay or leave the overdose scene before help arrives. The Act also protects anyone else who is at the scene when help arrives. For more information, visit opp.ca/overdose.
