Brockville – The Brockville Bunnies had two double-header games at home over the weekend at the Jack Giffin field at Fulford Park.
On Saturday the Bunnies hosted Trois Rivieres for two games, winning 3-1 in game 1 and 7-2 in game two.
In game one, they beat Trois Rivieres 3-1.
Lucas Gravlin with the complete game win on Saturday allowed 4 hits with 10 k’s as both pitchers were dealing. Bunnies only managed 3 hits with the game’s big blow being a 2 run double by Ben Buxton in the fourth to give the Bunnies a 3-1 lead and that was the end of the scoring. There were singles by Ryan Robinson and Andon Gill who also walked twice.
In game two the Bunnies won 7-2 with Zadok Roiger with a solid outing getting the win, going 7 innings giving up 7 hits, 1 earned run with 7 k’s. Cohen Gill was the hitting star with a home run, a double and a single.
Robinson had 2 hits while Buxton and Gravlin doubled. Singles by Hunter Sanger, Noah Deryaw and Mattie Barkley. The Bunnies overall record improved to 21-16-1 after Saturday’s games.
On Sunday the Bunnies continued their strong play of late splitting a pair of games at Fulford vs the CanAm league-leading Montreal Diamonds.
In game 1 the Bunnies lost a 6-5 decision to the Diamonds.
The Bunnies hopped out to a 5-0 lead early but surrendered a four spot in the third inning and the Diamonds tacked on a couple more runs including the winner in the seventh inning.
Brockville just couldn’t get the offence rebooted after the Diamonds scored the four runs. Cohen Gill with the no decision and looked good just had the one bad inning falling behind hitters and paid the price. Mattie Barkley took the loss giving up the winning run in seventh. Andon Gill with 2 singles and a triple. Barkley stroked 2 hits including a home run to left field. Ryan Robinson had a pair of hits with singles by Hunter Sanger, Wyatt Last and Lucas Gravlin.
In game 2 they won 3-2 over the Diamonds. The well-pitched and played game defensively had both teams only managing 5 hits apiece. Ryan Crotty got the win, going 4.1 innings with Jack LaBrash closing the door for the save. Barkley stayed hot with a single, and a double with Charlie Todd doubling and singles by Zadok Roiger and Robinson.
The Brockville Bunnies travel to Montreal next Saturday and return home Sunday for the final home stand of the summer. The Bunnies league record in CanAm now stands at 8-9 with their overall record going to 22-17-1.
