Brockville – The Brockville Bunnies played their last games of the season last weekend at the CanAm United Baseball League Championships at Gary Carter Field in Cote Saint-Luc Quebec.
The Bunnies finish the season with an overall record of 25-21-1.
They won one game and lost two games over the weekend and did not advance to the championship finals on Sunday.
On Friday the Bunnies open up the CanAm playoffs with a 14-6 loss to the Reds Prime. Brockville had a 1-0 and 2-1 leads early in the game but fell behind 7-2 after four innings due to some not-so-good defence.
The Bunnies battled back to make it 7-6 but gave up a 7 spot in the bottom of the sixth inning to put the game out of reach. Lucas Gravlin took the loss giving up three earned runs over four innings with Zadok Roiger, Wyatt Brandwood and Ethan Pert in relief.
Ryan Robinson got a triple and two singles while Mattie Barkley had 3 hits each while Ben Buxton stroked a pair of hits. As well there were singles by Hunter Sanger and Gravlin.
On Saturday, in the Bunnies’ second game of the weekend, they won 10-6 in extra innings over the Montreal Diamonds.
They were out to an early 2-0 lead but then trailed 4-2 after 4 innings. The Bunnies scored one in the 6th and 7th innings to force extra innings. With runners starting on 2nd base in extra innings both teams scored 1 in the 8th before Brockville exploded for 5 in the 9th with Hunter ‘SangBang’ Sanger smashing a grand slam to give the Bunnies the lead and eventual 10-6 win.
Charlie Todd went six innings giving up 4 earned runs with 6 k’s. Jack LaBrash got the win with 3 innings of solid relief recording 6 big k’s. Sanger with the big game at the plate with a single, a double, a grand slam and 6 RBIs. Also, Ryan Robinson doubled with singles by Mattie Barkley, Zadok Roiger and Wyatt Last.
In game 3 on Saturday the Bunnies ran out of steam and lost for the second time in the tourney to the Reds Prime team by a score of 9-2, despite both teams only getting 6 hits.
Ryan Crotty took the loss going 4.2 innings but only gave up 4 earned runs. Sanger and LaBrash were in relief. Ben Buxton doubled with singles by Ethan Pert, Lucas Gravlin, Robinson, Sanger and LaBrash.
