Brockville – The Brockville Braves had a great weekend of hockey winning both of their games.
Friday night they hosted the Carleton Place Canadians beating them 4-2 at the Memorial Centre. Then on Sunday, the Braves were in Pembroke where they won 4-3 in a shootout over the Lumber Kings.
The Braves will host the Navan Grads this Friday night at the Memorial Centre. Game time is 7:30 pm.
Friday night’s game recap from Whit Prophet:
As the realities of the demanding hockey in the CCHL start to settle in, the Braves used a strong 3rd period to defeat Brent Sullivan’s Canadians.
The Canadians scored to start the 1st period and scored to end it. In between Kimani Eccleston notched his 2nd goal of the season. The red-hot Kellen Dostaler deflected a Liam Harry pass from the corner for the only goal of the 2nd to tie things up.
Video Highlights:
Brandon Paluszak had a big game, buzzing all over the place. The Braves had a power play early in the 3rd, Paluszak was playing the right point. A series of passes Paluszak was able to slip in on the left side and scored the game-winning goal, backdoor style.
Kellen Dostaler, with his 4th goal in the last two games, put the icing on the cake with an empty netter.
Those two long “seeing-eye” shots were the only pucks to get by Ryan Gerlich. It was his 2nd win in as many games. He has a .935 save percentage and a 2.47 GAA.
The D-Corps had a busy time, along with Gerlich, in the 2nd period as they were bombarded with 21 shots. Grady Spicer was paired with Aidyn Urbach while Erik Dahlin and the other 16-year-old, Rhett Colson worked together. The first pairing was the two Liams, Reid and Harry.
The forward combinations continue to impress, at both ends of the ice. It was reassuring to see Jesse Lumsden back on top of his usual game.
Sunday’s game recap from Whit Prophet:
Happy Birthday, Kellen DOSTALER He celebrated in style last night!
After Peter Legostaev’s shootout goal was equalled by Eric Barnard, there followed 6 more rounds in the shootout. Then the red-hot Dostaler blew out the candles on the Lumber King’s cake with the shootout winner.
Video Highlights:
Trey Caracciolo then shut the door on the King’s last shooter and it was time to celebrate. Grady Spicer got things rolling with his second goal of the year, from Hunter McKnight and Jack “Dick” Treacy. Brandon Paluszak notched a pair to give the Braves a 3-2 lead.
The Kings tied it up while they were on a 5 on 3 power play, forcing overtime. OT solved nothing and it came down to that dreaded shootout. It took 9 rounds but the Braves prevailed.
Enjoy it boys while it lasts!
