Leeds OPP Investigating Fatal Water-Craft Collision on St. Lawrence River Sunday Morning

Ivy Lea – Leeds OPP are investigating a fatal personal watercraft (PWC) collision that occurred on Sunday morning on the St. Lawrence River just west of the 1000 Islands Bridge near Ivy Lea.

In a media release issued this morning, OPP say officers along with Leeds & Grenville Paramedics responded to the report of a crash involving a personal watercraft on Sunday, October 6, just before 6:00 a.m.

They say it happened among a group of small islands, just west of the Thousand Islands Bridge, between the mainland and Hill Island.

“It’s believed the single PWC, with two people onboard, had collided with an obstacle sometime overnight. The passenger could swim to shore to get help,” said Leeds OPP.

Police went on to say, a group in a boat searched the area and located the 21-year-old male driver in the water with no vital signs who was pronounced deceased after being brought to shore.

The deceased individual’s name will not be released said police.

OPP say the investigation is in its early stages, with assistance from the OPP Forensic Identification Services Unit, and in conjunction with the Office of the Chief Coroner.

They ask that if you witnessed the collision or have any information, you contact Leeds County OPP at 1-888-310-1122 and refer to incident E241337329.
