VIDEO HIGHLIGHTS: Braves Downed by Smiths Falls 4-1 Sunday in CCHL Action

Brockville – The Brockville Braves hosted the Smiths Falls Bears on Sunday at the Memorial Center, losing 4-1 to them.

“It Wasn’t Pretty, But it wasn’t that bad! Brandon Paluszak, the speedster, took a long breakaway pass from Grady Spicer and streaked in on the Bear’s goalie, tucked it away and gave the Braves an early (just over a minute in) lead,” said Braves’ commentator Whit Prophet.

The Bears tied it up before the first period ended on a nice goal.

A boarding call, which surprised many of the Braves fans, set the Bears up for a 5-minute-man advantage. The only shot that got past Braves’ goalie Trey Caracciolo, in that long 5 minutes, was a deflection in front of the net that handcuffed Caracciolo.

The insurance marked by the Bears was another one that had the Braves faithful shaking their heads. A waved-off icing call with 5 seconds left enabled the Bears to get the puck over the goal line as the clock reached 00:00.

“One big takeaway from this game, and not just this game, is that we have excellent goaltending,” said Prophet.

The Bears outshot Brockville 35 to 24 during the game.

This Friday the Braves host the Nepean Raiders at the Memorial Centre. Game time is 7:30 pm.
