OPP: Investigation Confirms There Was No Real Threat
Lansdowne – The Leeds County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has confirmed that a potential bomb threat directed toward Thousand Islands Elementary School (TIES) was not real.
The Gananoque Police Service (GPS) had been investigating a dispute involving young individuals on Thursday, November 7, 2024, when it was reported that one of the youths had indicated they were aware of a threat directed toward the school.
As a precaution Thousand Islands Elementary School and Gananoque Intermediate Secondary School were placed under a Hold-and-Secure procedure while the investigation was conducted. The OPP and Gananoque Police determined that the report of a threat was unfounded and had been a miscommunication.
Public safety is paramount, and the OPP takes all threats seriously.
Police want to remind everyone that words matter, and some words can have serious impacts.
Any questions about school operations should be directed to the schools or the school boards
