Brockville – The Brockville Police Service say they have seen an increase in ATM distraction thefts in the city.
They say suspect(s) approach individuals at ATMS under the pretense of offering assistance, only to distract them and steal their debit cards. In these cases, suspects create an opportunity to swap the victim’s card with a ‘look-alike’.
An example, police say the suspect(s) will cause the victim to drop their card on the ground, then pick it up for the victim while keeping the original.
Police are asking that you stay Alert when using ATMS and always exercise caution if being approached by a stranger.
