Brockville – The 16th annual Rotary Brockville Harvest Sharing Food Drive will be held from Thursday, October 9th, to Saturday, October 11th, in Brockville.
During the fall season, closing in on Thanksgiving, the Rotary Club of Brockville and the Rotary Club of the 1000 Islands invite you to generously donate food items or make a monetary contribution to benefit the Brockville and Area Food Bank.
They will be accepting monetary and food donations in support of the Brockville & Area Food Bank at this year’s drop-off location at the Real Canadian Superstore in Brockville, which will have a collection truck on hand from noon to 7:00 pm on Thursday, from 9:00 am to 7:00 pm on Friday and from 9:00 am to noon on Saturday.
The top 10 requested items are:
- Canned Soups and Stews
- Cheese Whiz
- Peanut Butter and Jam
- Canned Pasta
- Powdered Milk
- Pasta Sauce
- Canned Meats
- Cooking Oil
- Canned Vegetables
- Peanut-Free School Snacks and Drinks
Each month, the local food bank sees over 1,830 and rising Brockville & Area residents assisted by the food bank. 38% of those assisted are children, and 12% are seniors. The Brockville and Area Food Bank reported 21,537 visits in 2024, a total that included 5,519 visits by or on behalf of children; it notes the food bank serves approximately one in 13 area residents, and projects over 22,000 visits this year.
In July, a food insecurity emergency was declared by the city; it is not an actual state of emergency declaration, but rather aims to put pressure on the provincial and federal governments to take further action to address food insecurity.
On Thursday, both local radio stations, 104.9 myFM and 103.7 Giant FM, will be broadcasting live at the drop-off location at the Real Canadian Superstore.
They also recommend cash donations, which can be made by using the QR code on the poster, or online at https://rotarybrockville.ca/ and clicking on the Harvest Sharing Food Drive poster or directly at this link: https://portal.clubrunner.ca/656/donate/rotary-harvest-sharing-campaign
