Brockville & Area Community Living Association (BACLA) Gives an Update on Current Labour Dispute

Brockville – The Brockville & Area Community Living Association (BACLA) has posted an update on their Facebook page on July 13th from their perspective.

They said that they are in the 8th week of the current labour disruption, and they hope they are steps closer to reaching an agreement with the local union.

They also stated that since the strike began, they have not been able to engage continued discussions with the bargaining team.

Sandra Summers, Executive Director of BACLA stated in the update, that their primary focus is the continuity of operations and maintaining the well-being of people they support. To date, contingency plans remain in place, and may need to evolve and change if they must prepare for longer sustainability. She went on to say, their operations team is working around the clock to ensure the services continue to meet the needs of people.

“On behalf of our employees, people we support, and our organization, we have advocated to appropriate government officials for increased and sustainable investments to our sector,” said Summers. “We would like to acknowledge our own employees, and the important role they play in people’s lives. They are deeply missed, and we all look forward to be reunited with them.”

BACLA also said they remain committed to ending this disruption through continued mediated discussions between the Employer and its Local bargaining team and they encourage a positive resolution to end this wide spread labour action as soon as possible, for the benefit of their employees, and the people who rely on them.

“We share in the concerns of people we support, our family members, and our community partners, and we appreciate the patience and understanding shown during this challenging time,” added Summers.
